The Cave of Forgotten Dreams Film Guide

1.    When and where was the cave discovered?
Found in Southern France in 1994.
2.    Why was a door installed into the opening of the cave?
To compromise the delicate climate inside.
3.    Where were the red spots discovered and how were they made?
The red dots where discovered in the original entrance, and the red dots where made by the palm of a hand.
4.    What was the first proof that the drawings were not forgeries?
Calcite had formed, which takes thousands of years to grow.
5.    Why did the scientist believe that the artist created the bison with eight legs?  What other possible reason do you think that this might have been done?
The many legs suggest movement.  I think that there were multiple bison near each other, maybe little bison near the mother which could make the bison to appear to have eight legs, because they couldn’t see the other bison.
6.    What possible landmark was near the cave?
A possible land mark would be the Pont d’Arc.
7.    Why did the filmmakers think that there might have been dancing in the cave?  The reason would be that these people where dancing with the shadow; due to how the light flicker off the cave.
8.    What does the presence of bones indicate?
That these individuals never lived in the cave but used the cave to paint of preform ceremonies.
9.    How did they know that one person created the red dots in different parts of the cave?  The individual had a slight crooked little finger.
10. What animal is combined with a woman?
Bison
11. What was discovered in 2008?  What material was it created from?  The Venus of Willendorf was discovered in 2008 and was made of mammoth tusk.
12. What was most significant about this cave to you?

What was significant is how these individuals where able to preserve and protect the cave, to the formations will be able to grow and also the paintings.
